Self-Representation
You and your partner may decide to represent yourselves in your legal separation, marital or domestic partner dissolution. You would then be referred to as in propria persona or pro per. There are a number of self-help books and other resources available to pro per parties. Additionally, family courts often provide a Family Law Facilitator’s Office where pro per parties can obtain assistance in completing paperwork. Sometimes self-represented parties choose to consult with an attorney for legal advice during the course of their family law matter.
